Ken Head, a 92-year-old fitness enthusiast from Bristol, has become an inspiration for others seeking to stay fit. The former Concorde engineer does between 400 and 600 push-ups every day, aside from his regular boxing, climbing, and running regimen. Mr. Head reports feeling “on top of the world” after exercising, and he shows no signs of slowing down, even after surgery to treat skin cancer.
After his morning push-ups, Mr. Head does a full-body workout and runs between 5 and 10 kilometers around the Bristol Harbourside. He starts his day with a healthy breakfast of jumbo oats and wheatgerm, mixed with chai seeds, along with fruits and nuts. This routine, he says, is what keeps him going.
Even when faced with challenges such as being knocked over by an e-scooter, which resulted in a scan that revealed his skin cancer, Mr. Head remained committed to his health and fitness. He started sprint triathlons, which involve swimming, cycling, and running, as a new challenge.
“He’s got so much stamina for his age and he’s a credit to us down here because he shows us how we should be keeping fit,” said café co-owner Kay Leach, who watches Mr. Head run by her establishment every day. “He’s an inspiration, and a lovely man as well.”
Mr. Head hopes to reach the age of 100 and has no intention of slowing down. “There’s no limit really,” he said. “I shall keep on doing it.
