Lib Dem member suspended after arrest over sexual assault claim


A man from Bristol has been apprehended by Sussex Police after an allegation of sexual assault. The incident occurred during the annual conference of the Liberal Democrats in Brighton. The 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after the alleged event occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning at Brighton’s Grand Hotel. The highly anticipated “Glee Club” event, which is a social highlight during the conference, was being held at the hotel at the same time.

The party has suspended the accused from the party. A spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats stated that they were “horrified” by the situation and that they had assisted the police in arresting the suspect. Furthermore, they had taken steps to suspend the man.

Confirming the event, Sussex Police stated that “We have arrested a 57-year-old man from Bristol on suspicion of sexual assault by touching in relation to an incident which took place at The Grand Hotel, Kings Road, Brighton. He remains in custody at this time.”
