Ben Whishaw on Paddington in Peru: Aunt Lucy's fate will be revealed


Ben Whishaw, who provides the voice of Paddington bear, has revealed that fans will find out what happened to Aunt Lucy in the upcoming Paddington film. Titled Paddington in Peru, the film will see the famous marmalade-loving bear return to his home country to search for his beloved aunt. Imelda Staunton provides the voice of Aunt Lucy. When asked about whether the film would reveal what happened to Lucy, Whishaw said, “Yes.”

The first two Paddington films were set in London, after the bear had fled Peru following the destruction of his home in an earthquake. In the trailer for the new film, we see Paddington leave London to return to Peru. However, when he reaches the Home for Retired Bears where Aunt Lucy is supposed to be staying, she is not there. It is then revealed that she is “on some sort of quest.”

Olivia Colman joins the cast of Paddington in Peru as a guitar-playing nun who works at the home where Aunt Lucy is meant to be staying. Meanwhile, Antonio Banderas provides the voice of a boat captain who helps Paddington in his search. Whishaw has described the film as “gorgeous” and is excited for people to see it.

While Whishaw is best known for his role as the voice of Paddington, he has also appeared in the James Bond films as Q and in the TV adaptation of This is Going to Hurt. The actor is currently starring in a new West End production of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot opposite Lucian Msamati. Directed by James MacDonald, the production is running at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London.

Paddington in Peru will hit UK and Irish cinemas on 8 November. The film also sees Hugh Bonneville, Dame Julie Walters, Madeleine Harris, and Samuel Joslin return to their roles in the franchise. However, Sally Hawkins has handed the role of Mrs Brown to Emily Mortimer
