A London art gallery which was displaying a Banksy piece of work was robbed at around 11 pm on Sunday night. Following an ongoing investigation, it has since been announced that two men have been charged in relation to this crime.
The CCTV footage depicts the moment in which the artwork was stolen from Grove Art Gallery, New Cavendish Street in London. The work stolen was ‘Girl with a Balloon’ and it was the only item that was stolen during the incident. Fortunately, the piece has been recovered and has been returned to the gallery.
The authorities have reported that two men have been charged in relation to the incident. The court hearing took place at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where James Love, 53, of Elvin Drive, North Stifford and Larry Frasier, 47, of Evelyn Denington Road, Beckton, appeared. They are scheduled to appear at Kingston Crown Court on the 9th of October.
The attack on the gallery has provoked a concerning significance on the art world. The work by Banksy’s is well-known globally, and it is feared that a significant number of galleries prioritizing the showcasing of Banksy’s artwork may become a target for future thefts.
