Teen who appeared in Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams show dies

An 18-year-old named Umar Mahmood has passed away alongside a 16-year-old boy after a car accident in Preston on Tuesday night. Mahmood was famously featured in a BBC show with Freddie Flintoff called Field of Dreams, where he was chosen to join an underprivileged group of individuals to create a new cricket team. The crash happened at around 22:55 BST when Mahmood’s Audi A3 Sport veered off the road and collided with a tree on Chain Caul Way. Lancashire Police confirmed the second individual to be a 16-year-old boy named Adam Bodi.

Mr Mahmood’s family heard the news, prompting previous tributes to the young man by propaganda from his former school, Penwortham Priory Academy. The school notified BBC News that, “with great sadness,” they hear the news about Mahmood and that his family would be in their thoughts and prayers. Mahmood had been featured on the BBC show Field of Dreams after Flintoff, the presenter, found 11 teenagers that have never played cricket before to form a team.

Mahmood spoke about the show and his involvement in an interview in July 2022, where he described flintoff being very down-to-earth and the opportunity given to him and the other players. In the show, Mahmood can be seen bowling during the young side’s first match, where he got an opponent out, but the most important thing was everyone cheering and coming together to support the team. His former school stated that he was very kind-hearted and as a youngster showed ambition in everything he did.

The Academy was shocked to hear about the young boy’s passing, and their thoughts and prayers are with both the family of Mahmood and Bodi. Lancashire Police is asking for any information about the accident and has mentioned they found a 17-year-old boy injured at the scene. He is currently in a stable condition in the hospital, and the Police will provide more information after an investigation
