Bradford City of Culture 2025: David Hockney, Turner Prize and Bronte tribute in line-up

Bradford, the UK City of Culture for 2025, has unveiled a year-long programme of events to showcase the city’s rich and diverse talents. The lineup includes music, art, theatre, outdoor events, and exhibitions celebrating the Brontë sisters, David Hockney, and local heritage.

The 2025 Turner Prize will be hosted at Bradford’s Cartwright Hall art gallery. The renowned prize rivals the contemporary art scene in London and has previously been held in cities such as Liverpool and Glasgow.

Zayn Malik, Bradford’s ambassador and former One Direction star, expressed his strong bond with the city and the enthusiasm with which the world will now celebrate its upcoming year of culture.

On the subject of art, local celebrity David Hockney, regarded as one of the greatest British artists, will invite people of all ages across the UK to take part in a drawing project to reflect our everyday lives. The projection will be a doorway to take up art in everyday life, an initiative to democratize art and creative expressions.

Bradford, which has one of the youngest populations in the UK and most diverse communities, was chosen as the 2025 UK City of Culture ahead of county Durham, Southampton, and Wrexham. The program behind Bradford 2025 is expected to generate £700m and create 3,000 jobs, bringing people together and celebrating the exceptional talents of the city
