The moment an Airbus Beluga arrives at Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Airport witnessed an unusual arrival on Monday when the Airbus Beluga took to the runway. Dubbed the “world’s strangest-looking plane” due to its resemblance to the famous breed of whale, the Beluga landed at 11:04, having reportedly been sent from Toulouse to deliver spare parts to repair a British Airways plane that has been at Heathrow since April.

The grounded plane was said to have been damaged in a minor collision at the airport, and the arrival of the Beluga was eagerly anticipated as it contained the parts required to make the repairs necessary to get the plane back in the skies. There was relief at the airport as the delivery was completed successfully and the Beluga is set to return to Toulouse later in the day at 17:40.

Social media has been awash with excitement over the arrival of the Beluga, with many people sharing pictures of the plane and commenting on its unusual appearance. Meanwhile, aviation enthusiasts have eagerly followed the progress of the jet as it arrived in the UK, with many noting that the Beluga is a familiar sight in the skies around Toulouse, where it is based.

The Airbus Beluga has become something of a celebrity in its own right, due in part to its distinctive appearance, but also as a result of its important job as part of the aviation supply chain. There are currently five Airbus Belugas in operation, all of which are named after different whale species, and they are used to transport large and oversized components between Airbus sites across the world
