Second body found after British hikers went missing in Majorca

Emergency services have found a body following a search for a British man who is believed to have been washed away by flash floods in Majorca. This follows the discovery of a British woman in the region earlier this week. The man and woman are said to have been hiking to the Mediterranean sea on Tuesday, when a storm hit the area and they went missing. The Torrente de Pareis canyon, in the Tramuntana mountain range, has been the focus of search efforts since Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the Spanish Civil Guard told Reuters that emergency services located the man’s body on Friday. This occurred after local authorities had issued warnings of “very intense storms” earlier in the week, urging individuals to avoid outdoor activities. The mountain rescue brigade in the Balearic Islands has stated that ten other tourists were saved following floods that took them by surprise during the storm. These individuals alerted authorities to the missing pair.

The area is prone to flooding from autumn through spring and, due to its sheer cliffs, has no easy escape route, according to a local tourism website. The Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office confirmed that it is supporting the families of the two individuals, who are still considered missing.
