Instagram has suspended the business profile of Want That Fudge, a fudge maker based in Scunthorpe, without any warning, devastating the company and leaving it without a vital platform through which it promoted its products. Want That Fudge, owned by Claire Brennan and her husband Pete, had been using the account to reach its 93,000 followers for the last 10 years. Brennan said that she and her husband were frustrated because they had not broken any rules and that the social media network should rectify the mistake.
After the suspension, Want That Fudge, which runs an online shop in addition to its factory unit, tried to create a backup account that was also subsequently removed. The company said it had attempted to appeal the decision with no response from Instagram’s parent company, Meta. The Brennan’s said they need the platform to engage with customers and maintain sales effectively.
Brennan said that the suspension compounded the problems faced by the couple after their factory unit had been vandalized and forced to temporarily close in August. She added that the company was still able to fulfil orders from customers across the country, but it had suffered a significant loss of customers, which would affect the firm’s long-term prospects.
Meta, on its part, told the BBC it was investigating the issue. “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing their Instagram accounts,” a spokesperson said. “We’re sorry for the inconvenience, and we’re working to address the issue as quickly as possible.
