The iconic band Oasis has once again earned the number one spot on the UK album charts, marking the first time in 14 years that they have achieved this feat. The resurgence in popularity of their debut album, Definitely Maybe, is largely thanks to a special 30th-anniversary edition that includes unreleased demos and outtakes. Time Flies and (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? also re-entered in the top 10, at third and fourth place, respectively.
The Official Charts Company reported a 408% week-on-week increase in sales for Definitely Maybe, specifically noting that 50% of those sales were on vinyl. In fact, the album also ranked first on the official vinyl chart this week. This marks Oasis’s first time topping the charts since 2010’s Time Flies.
The popularity of Oasis has also pushed their hit single Live Forever up to number eight on the UK singles chart. The song had only reached the number 10 spot upon its initial release in 1995.
Meanwhile, American pop star Sabrina Carpenter captured the number one spot on the singles chart with her hit song Taste, which was aided by a gory and thrilling music video co-starring Jenna Ortega. Carpenter controlled the top three spots for a second consecutive week with two former chart-toppers, Please Please Please and Espresso. So far this year, she has spent a total of 14 weeks in the top spot.
The band Oasis recently faced criticism after dynamic pricing was introduced for their upcoming 2025 reunion tour, resulting in some fans paying over double the face value for tickets. While the band denied any knowledge of this pricing arrangement, the Competition and Markets Authority is now launching an investigation to determine if Ticketmaster breached any consumer protection laws
