A man who was left devastated after accidentally deleting a video of his late wife has been reunited with the cherished clip thanks to a charity called AbilityNet. Bill Sheargold, from Wolverhampton, inadvertently deleted the two-minute video of his wife, Lesley, while clearing out his email inbox. Mr. Sheargold had been married to Lesley for 45 years until her death in May of last year.
The precious digital content was the only video footage that Mr. Sheargold had of his wife, and he feared that the footage was lost forever. The tragedy unfolded after he received a notification on his mobile phone instructing him to clear his inbox, and following the on-screen instructions resulted in the accidental deletion of the video.
The tearful widower was put in touch with AbilityNet through the BBC Radio WM and was visited by engineer Mohammed Iltaf, who trawled through Mr. Sheargold’s device in the hopes of retrieving the lost footage. After several anxious hours, Mr. Iltaf was finally able to inform the widower that they had found the video.
Mr. Sheargold expressed his immense gratitude for the organisation, saying the digital reunion means everything to him. Chris Grant, from AbilityNet, echoed the widower’s sentiments, remarking that “it was brilliant to get [the clip] back for him”.
