Labour getting it wrong, says Green co-leader Adrian Ramsay

Adrian Ramsay, co-leader of the Green Party, has criticised the Labour Party during his speech at the party’s conference in Manchester. Ramsay stated that Labour “is getting it wrong” in a number of areas and that the Greens will “hold the new government to account”. The co-leader went on to promise that the Greens would challenge areas where Labour was “off track” and not doing enough to deliver “positive, inspiring change”. Ramsay’s speech is his first since the Greens made significant gains in the 2019 General Election, in which the party gained three additional seats.

In his address, Ramsay specifically focused on issues such as the two-child cap on benefits, airport expansion, and the cutting of winter fuel payments to pensioners. These are areas in which the Green Party has expressed concerns over Labour’s position. While acknowledging that there are areas in which the Green Party agrees with Labour’s plans, Ramsay suggested that the Greens would be vigilant in ensuring that Labour delivered on its promises.

Co-leader Carla Denyer was not present at the conference, due to illness. Therefore, she delivered a speech via video message instead. Denyer echoed Ramsay’s stance, stating that the party would hold the new government to account and would not hesitate to highlight areas in which it felt Labour was “off track”. Both leaders appeared hopeful that the Greens would be able to use their increased presence in Parliament to push for progressive change and hold the government to account
