The number of university students who hold paid employment jobs has increased, with expenses such as rent and bills being the primary concern among students. Nevertheless, research from the Higher Education Policy Institute has discovered that those who’ve previously been in the care system are the most probable group to be employed while studying.
Leah Flint, a care-experienced student, was working for 15 hours a day throughout the summer months to support her and her brother financially. This rigorous lifestyle is common among care-experienced students. It’s also worth noting that more than 2,000 of these students will receive a £9,000 bursary this year according to the Scottish government.
BBC Scotland conversed with two care-experienced students about their experience of studying at university and the advice they would give to other youths.
