Cat 'returns from dead' four days after Thornaby cremation

In a strange turn of events, a cat named Ted has returned home alive after his owners had believed he had drowned and held a cremation ceremony in his memory. Nicci Knight, the owner of Ted, was on holiday in Turkey when her neighbours sent a video through her Ring video doorbell informing her they had found a dead cat, believed to be Ted, in their garden pond. Ms Knight organised a cremation ceremony while she was still on vacation but was shocked to discover Ted alive and well, wandering in through the cat flap four days later.

Vicki Crallan, the director of Heavenly Pets Crematorium, expressed her concern that Ted’s initial cremation had been a severe mistake. Ms Knight had been heartbroken to break the news to her four children and husband that Ted had died as he is a valued member of the family.

After the confirmation that Ted had returned home, Ms Knight realised that she had cremated someone else’s cat and paid £130 for their funeral. The family have been unable to trace the owner of the real Ted and suspect he may be a stray or farm cat. Still, they feel comforted knowing they gave the cat a proper farewell.

The Heavenly Pets Crematorium has donated the cremation fee to a local cat rescue center. Despite the family’s joy at Ted’s return, he has been blissfully unaware, and they have had to prevent him from wandering over to the neighbour’s garden and potentially another pond
