Jenny Hastings, the wife of former Scotland rugby player Scott Hastings, has been reported missing after disappearing at a wild swimming spot in the Firth of Forth on Tuesday. The coastguard was alerted to a “report of concern” and more than one search party was in operation, however, she was not found and the search was stood down later in the evening. A statement released on behalf of the Hastings family says Jenny has “struggled with her mental health for a number of years” and the police are treating this case as a “high risk missing person case”.
Scott Hastings played 65 times for Scotland as a centre between 1986 and 1997. Jenny Hastings has also spoken about her struggles with mental health in the past. She disappeared from the couple’s Edinburgh home for 36 hours in March 2017 and walked for miles to the Pentland Hills whilst suffering from depression. However, she received the help she needed by going into a police station and later launched a charity campaign with her husband to keep people active and improve their mental wellbeing.
The Hastings family have thanked their followers for their support and asked for privacy as they deal with this difficult time. The family statement says that they miss Jenny and hope she can be returned to them safely so that they can celebrate her life. She has previously talked about her public struggles, helping people understand what it is like to experience mental illness and being a prominent voice in the field.
The case has gripped people in the locality, many of whom are following updates and sharing messages of support with the Hastings family. Police searches continue as they follow any leads which could help them locate Ms. Hastings
