Harvey Weinstein, the ex-Hollywood producer, has had indecent assault charges filed against him in the UK dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The CPS reviewed the case and determined that a conviction was no longer a realistic prospect. Weinstein had been charged with two counts of indecent assault relating to allegations from the summer of 1996 by a woman, now in her 50s, according to the Metropolitan Police.
The CPS stated that “we would always encourage any potential victims of sexual assault to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met”. Frank Ferguson, head of the Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, explained that the CPS had a continuing duty to assess criminal cases. The alleged victim had accused Weinstein of assaulting her on two occasions, which he strenuously denied.
