A block of flats in south-east London caught on fire, prompting the London Fire Brigade (LFB) to intervene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The LFB was notified of the incident at approximately 12:51 BST and quickly sent 70 firefighters and 10 fire engines to Rosenthal Road in Catford. Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries and, by 14:15, the brigade announced that the fire was under control.
The LFB stated that almost 50 reports of the fire were made and that flats on the ninth and tenth floors were most affected. However, all residents of the building were successfully evacuated. In the aftermath of the incident, firefighters were seen loading their vehicles with the equipment used to help bring the situation under control. Photos taken of the building show blackened windows of three apartments on the top three floors at the south-east corner of the tower, indicating that those flats have sustained severe damage.
Rosenthal Road and Honley Road are currently closed to traffic, and both sides of the street nearby are lined with fire engines. Many locals have also gathered round, keen to know more about what happened. Fire crews from Forest Hill, Greenwich, Deptford, and Lee Green, as well as other local fire stations, are supporting at the incident site.
