Jack O'Sullivan: 'My aim on this earth is to find my missing son'

The search for missing Briton Jack O’Sullivan, who disappeared in Bristol six months ago after a night out, is still ongoing. His mother, Catherine O’Sullivan, has been tirelessly searching for answers, even climbing fences and jumping into ditches in her search for her son. She believes that police have not done enough and left no stone unturned in her quest to find her missing child.

Jack was studying a law conversion course in Bristol and had previously graduated from Exeter University. He went out with people from his course for drinks and then on to a house party, which he left shortly before 03:00 GMT. Catherine had messaged him around 01:00 to see if he was alright, as he was out with people he did not know very well, and to see if he wanted a lift home. He messaged back to say he was fine and was going to get a taxi. However, he never came back home, and his family has not heard from him since.

What makes Jack’s disappearance even more challenging is that it is an “ambiguous loss,” a term used by missing persons expert Charlie Hedges to describe cases where you cannot understand what happened and cannot bring any closure to it. Despite the fact that the family has complained to Avon and Somerset Police about their handling of the investigation, there are still very few leads as to Jack’s whereabouts.

In the weeks and months since Jack disappeared, the Facebook group “Find Jack” has gained over 57,000 members worldwide. Unfortunately, some people have sent messages to Catherine with ransom demands and suggestions of awful things that have happened to Jack, which only compounds the family’s heartbreak. Police have conducted over 100 hours of CCTV reviews and 200 hours of searches on the river and surrounding banks, but Jack is yet to be found
