Tom Cruise stole the show at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony on August 11th with an incredible stunt performance set to the theme of the “Mission: Impossible” movies. The Hollywood star jumped and rappelled his way down into the Stade de France, where he was greeted by Team USA and other athletes. Taking the Olympic flag from US Olympic champion Simone Biles, Cruise then drove off on a motorcycle, triggering a pre-recorded segment in which the star rode through Paris onto a plane, which then took off. He then parachuted out to Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ‘By The Way’ before landing in the Hollywood Hills as part of the handover to the Los Angeles games, which will take place in 2028.
The event made waves on social media with many people applauding the show-stopping stunt. Earlier, H.E.R performed the American national anthem ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ ahead of Cruise’s entrance. Rumors of the actor’s entrance circulated earlier this month. H.E.R.’s performance was confirmed earlier this week.
Cruise is currently filming the eighth entry in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise in Europe and has been spotted in attendance at multiple events at the Olympics already, including the women’s gymnastics, football, and swimming. Earlier, Phoenix teamed up with Air, Vampire Weekend‘s Ezra Koenig and French electro-pop pioneer Kavinsky at the closing ceremony of Paris Olympics 2024.
The events kicked off with an epic opening ceremony along the river Seine on July 26, featuring Lady Gaga performing French cabaret song ‘Mon truc en plumes’ and Gojira performing French Revolution song ‘Ah Ça Ira!’ with opera singer Marina Viotti. Celine Dion also performed for the first time in four years, taking on Edith Piaf’s ‘L’Hymne A L’Amour’ in her first show since she revealed in 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome (SPS)
