During an interview on Desert Island Discs, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has revealed how music star Snoop Dogg helped him understand the universality of the show. Snoop, a fan of the Birmingham-set period gangster drama, told Knight how he was reminded of how he had become involved in gang culture after watching the show. “He told me the story of his life, and it was all about family keeping you in, and escaping from family to do the bad stuff, and then the family relocating their emotions and loyalties to follow you, and then escaping again,” Knight explained.
Netflix is set to release a film spin-off of the series, which will reunite Peaky Blinders fans with the show’s lead role; gangster Tommy Shelby portrayed by Cillian Murphy, and will be directed by Tom Harper. The movie is set to take place during World War II and a number of stars have already been confirmed to appear, such as Rebecca Ferguson.
Snoop has been vocal about his love of Peaky Blinders, having previously expressed it in 2019 by releasing a cover of the show’s well-known theme ‘Red Right Hand’. However, his latest appearance was performing during the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, where he played hits Drop It Like It’s Hot and The Next Episode. The handing over of the Olympic torch to LA for the 2028 games took place during that time.
It was also reported last year that Netflix was contemplating two Peaky Blinders spin-off series. One would be set in Boston in the mid-20th century, whilst the other would focus on the character of Polly Gray
