Flavor Flav, the icon of hip-hop group Public Enemy, has been honoured with his own Olympics-themed Funko Pop doll in recognition of his association with the US Olympics team. Sold under the name “POP: Team USA USAWP Flavor Flav”, the limited-edition item will only be on sale until August 16. A portion of each sale will go to Team USA’s Water Polo fund. Flavor Flav’s new toy makes him the latest in a long line of celebrated music industry figures to receive their own Funko Pop doll. Artists that have received a similar accolade include The Cure, Metallica, Post Malone, Slipknot, as well as Liam and Noel Gallagher. Although Flavor Flav’s association with American water polo has certainly been a boost to his popularity and prompted the creation of his Funko Pop doll, the rapper is involved in many other projects.
Flavor Flav was signed up as both the women’s and men’s American water polo teams’ sponsor for five years, a deal designed to boost the sport’s popularity in the United States. Additionally, the rapper recently announced he will star in a new reality show, earning his high school diploma. He also ordered the complete menu at Red Lobster to support the beleaguered seafood chain and declared himself a Swiftie.
Despite these promotions, Flavor Flav is in Paris for the Olympics and has been a major sensation in his role as the “official hype man” of the US women’s water polo team, which has a good chance of winning.
