The Paris Olympic Games have come to an end, and will be concluded with a closing ceremony tonight. Among the performers at the event will be Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, who will symbolically represent the handover of the Olympic torch to Los Angeles for the 2028 Games. Fellow LA native H.E.R. will also make an appearance at the event, singing the US national anthem live at the Stade de France.
The opening ceremony for the Games took place back on July 26, featuring Lady Gaga and Gojira. Celine Dion also performed for the first time in four years, singing Edith Piaf’s ‘L’Hymne A L’Amour’. The upcoming closing ceremony will depict a “futuristic world where the Games have disappeared” and will be titled ‘Records’, according to reports. Previously, it had been rumoured that electronic artists Phoenix and Air, along with Tom Cruise, would also take to the stage at the event.
LA28 Chairperson Casey Wasserman announced the performers, stating: “This is the biggest moment in LA28 history to date, as the Olympic flag passes from Paris to LA. We are thrilled to feature the very best of LA with local artists and are grateful to Billie, H.E.R., the Chili Peppers and Snoop for their collaboration on what will be an incredible show to a global audience that will give fans a taste of what’s to come in 2028.”
Eilish also confirmed the news over her Instagram, expressing her excitement for the performance. It had been speculated that Charli XCX may join the singer on stage after teasing a potential performance of their new collaborative single ‘Guess’. The event will have increased safety measures following the recently foiled terror attack that was planned for a Taylor Swift show in Vienna
