UK weather: Temperatures over 30C on way for parts of UK

Over the weekend and into the beginning of next week, temperatures in parts of the UK are expected to soar over 30C. According to BBC Weather, Sunday and Monday are anticipated to be the hottest days, with “mid-30s” predicted in the south east of England. Other areas in southern and eastern England, as well as the Midlands and south Wales, may experience rising temperatures. These high temperatures are being attributed to Storm Debby, which has caused severe flooding and heavy rainfall in the US.

Although Storm Debby won’t reach the UK, a plume of hot air from Spain and France will affect parts of England and Wales. It is believed that a buckle in the jet stream, caused by energy from the storm, is behind the warmer weather. The jet stream is a fast-flowing current of air that circles the planet and forms when warmer air from the south meets colder air from the north. Heavy and thundery showers are expected as cooler air moves in on Tuesday, which may indicate the hot spell will be brief.

BBC Weather presenter Stav Danaos revealed, “Although still a little uncertain at present, temperatures are likely to get into the low 30s Celsius across the south-east of England, and possibly even a little hotter… There is a chance of something around the mid-30s in the hottest spots.” Temperatures in the entire UK are expected to return to normal by next week.

Before Sunday, western parts of the UK will continue experiencing changeable weather, with rain expected on Thursday and scattered sunny spells on Friday. Saturday could bring humid weather, as well as windier conditions than usual in some north western and western areas.
