Taylor Swift was “never” in talks for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ cameo despite rumours, says director

Despite plenty of speculation, Taylor Swift was never actually in talks for a cameo role in Deadpool & Wolverine, according to director Shawn Levy. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Levy discussed how rumours of Swift’s supposed involvement in the film got out of hand. Levy did express some concern that audiences would be disappointed by Swift’s absence from the movie, but said there was no stopping the wildfire of online rumours. Although Swift has long been rumoured to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Levy made it clear that she was never even a topic of conversation for Deadpool & Wolverine.

A number of fans had guessed that Swift may take on the role of X-Men character Dazzler, appearing either as the character herself or as Lady Deadpool. These rumours were further fuelled by Swift’s real-life friendship with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, with Reynolds playing Deadpool and Lively voicing Lady Deadpool in the movie. Swift, Reynolds, Lively, and Hugh Jackman all attended a Kansas City Chiefs football game together last year, adding even more speculation to the rumour mill.

Although Swift will not be appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine, the singer did pay tribute to the film on Instagram, praising Reynolds for creating the “best work of his life”. She also poked fun at Jackman, who is a good friend of both Swift and Reynolds, rather than mentioning Reynolds himself in the post. Despite missing out on a potential cameo in the movie, Swift is still going strong in the world of music, currently on tour for her ‘Eras’ album.

Swift is also up for a whopping ten awards at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Nominations include the prestigious Video of the Year award, making Swift the most nominated artist of the year. Regardless of whether or not Swift ever makes an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s clear that she continues to be a major force both in the music industry and pop culture as a whole
