Bristol-based street artist, Banksy, has unveiled a new collection of three black silhouette compositions featuring animals. On Monday, Banksy posted a photo of a goat perched atop a wall, followed on Tuesday by two elephant silhouettes on the side of a house in Chelsea. Then on Wednesday, Banksy unveiled the third artwork on Instagram, showing monkeys appearing to swing from the bridge of a Tube station near Shoreditch High Street in East London.
The latest artwork appears on a bridge over Brick Lane, situated near a coffee house and vintage clothing store. Banksy has not left any captions under any of his Instagram posts, fueling speculation online about the meaning of his work. Three monkeys are associated with the Japanese proverb “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.” In Banksy’s latest work, however, the monkeys are not covering their eyes, ears, or mouths.
Fans of Banksy eagerly await further additions to the animal-themed collection, as the anonymous street artist has established a reputation for his politically charged, satirical, and often-controversial works of art. The artist has maintained anonymity throughout his career, and his pieces can fetch millions of pounds at auction.
