The Last Dinner Party, a band recently nominated for a Mercury Prize, spoke to NME about their new album and plans for Reading & Leeds 2024. Aurora Nishevci and Lizzie Mayland spoke to NME ahead of their appearance on the Tito’s stage at Lollapalooza. The duo’s debut album, ‘Prelude To Ecstacy’, was announced as a nominee for the Mercury Prize.
NME gave the album a 4-star review, commenting that it is the band’s success and great songs that are easy to embrace and return to. In response to being nominated for the Mercury Prize, Nishevci expressed that they are humbled to be listed among other great artists in the same category, calling it such a prestigious award.
When the two musicians were asked what they would do with the £25k cash prize if they win, they jokingly offered two options. Mayland suggested going on holiday or reinvesting in the music industry, while Nishevci wanted them to buy some synths. They both expressed some interest in giving back to charities too.
The duo also shared their thoughts on the Prize’s usual live performance element getting cancelled. Nishevci expressed sadness about the decision and its implications. Awards are great for creating a community and creating an opportunity for other artists to perform.
The Last Dinner Party will embark on a European headline tour this autumn. Tickets are available for purchase online
