SZA is stepping away from live performances for “a while”

SZA has revealed that she is going to take a step back from performing live “for a while”, the singer-songwriter announced on X (formerly Twitter) late last night. The move comes mere one day after the artist completed her set at Canada’s Osheaga festival on August 5. “Yesterday was my last show for a while,” she wrote. “Finally ’bout to get my life together thank u God.”

This decleration of stepping back from live performances from SZA follows a series of the singer’s pivotal festival performances throughout the United States and Europe, which included a headline performance at Glastonbury. The Headlining show took place on June 30th at the Pyramid Stage and unfortunately it was also plagued by numerous audio and technical difficulties. In defence of her set, SZA wrote on X/Twitter, “The bravery required to be alive in public is remarkable. S/o everybody doing that shit,” responding to some of the backlash.

In a four-star review of her Glastonbury headline set, NME wrote, “As disjointed as this show occasionally is, though, it’s hypnotic and potent. The turnout is noticeably small for a headliner, but the extra space on the ground allows young women to share smiles of recognition and understanding with strangers while singing along to songs centred on overcoming toxic romances and self-esteem battles.” SZA has decided to take a break from performing live, the extent of which is not known.
