Machine Gun Kelly says he is one year “completely sober”

Machine Gun Kelly has announced that he has been “completely sober” for a year. The rapper and singer, who’s real name is Colson Baker, revealed this information on Bonnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast. The announcement came after appearing alongside Bonnie and her husband Jelly Roll in their latest collaboration, ‘Lonely Road’.

In the podcast, Kelly said: “I’m completely sober from everything. I don’t drink anymore. I haven’t drank since last August.” He said he went to rehab after concluding his European tour in 2023. Kelly explained that he didn’t tell anyone outside of his inner circle.

“That was the first time I ever went to rehab. They just gave me so many ways to operate the body, show where this anger is coming from, and methods to quell it,” he said. The musician also met psychiatrists and therapists during his time in rehab, saying some “gave up on me”. But, Kelly continued, “I ended up falling into an awareness of what my condition is and have made peace with it. It’s a constant tightrope walk.”

Kelly credits girlfriend Megan Fox for helping him on his journey to sobriety, adding: “Megan has for sure been extremely helpful in dealing with the kind of psychological withdrawals that come with [sobriety].” In the same podcast interview, Kelly opened up about the strained relationship between himself and his mother.

“I would like to say for the record, I love my mom dearly and I misrepresented her a lot early in my career. And not misrepresented in the sense of not speaking truth. I was speaking my truth, but I didn’t give the masses the chance to understand her truth.” Kelly has since reconciled with his mother and posted a picture of the two of them side by side on Instagram. The picture was captioned “Introducing my mom”.

Kelly continues to embrace the journey that is his sobriety and acknowledges the difficulties that come with it. He admits that he is hard on himself and is working towards being more comfortable with showing people who he really is. Kelly explains that he used to depend on his art to showcase his true self
