Police have confirmed that one child is still in hospital following the fatal stabbing attack in Southport last week. Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, were killed in the attack, which took place at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class. Eight children and two adults were also seriously injured. Merseyside Police stated that all of the casualties had been discharged except for the one child.
The woman who arranged the workshop, Leanne Lucas, a 35-year-old yoga teacher, remains in critical condition after undergoing surgery. Her cousin Chris Rimmer hailed her as a hero, explaining that she had “shielded two girls” during the attack. Jonathan Hayes, who runs a business close by, was also critically injured whilst trying to save victims. He told the BBC from his hospital bed that he was “saddened” he couldn’t have done more.
Axel Muganwa Rudakubana has been charged with three counts of murder and ten counts of attempted murder in relation to the incident. False claims were subsequently spread on social media that the attacker was an asylum seeker who had arrived in the UK by sea and was Muslim. Rudakubana is a 17-year-old with no known links to Islam.
The teenager is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court at a pre-trial preparation hearing on 25 October. Following the attack, there was violent disorder in several British towns and cities
