Paris 2024 Olympics track cycling video: Team GB win women's team sprint gold in world record time

Great Britain’s women’s cycling team has landed gold in the team sprint event at the Paris 2024 Olympics after defeating New Zealand in the final. The victory was all the sweeter as they shattered the world record for the third time on the same day.

The trio of Eleanor Dickinson, Lauren Bate and Katy Marchant had started the day in fine form, setting a new world record in the qualifying heats. They then went on to beat Germany in the semi-finals, sending them into the final against New Zealand, who they had already beaten in the heats.

It proved to be an electrifying contest, with both teams trading the lead in the first two laps. However, it was Marchant who maintained a blistering pace in the final lap to secure an historic win for Great Britain.

The women’s team sprint gold represents the first cycling medal for Great Britain at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and the entire team can be immensely proud of their achievement. It is a testament to their talent, dedication and sheer hard work that they were able to pull off such an impressive feat. Congratulations to all involved!
