Liverpool Council Leader, Cllr Liam Robinson, has released a statement addressing the recent disorder that has taken place in the city. Robinson expressed his gratitude to the police and fire services for their action in keeping Liverpool safe, as well as to Council staff for their support, including emergency response, clean-up operations, and outreach work within affected communities and places of worship. Robinson acknowledged that the events of the past few days have been devastating for Liverpool and the wider city region but also praised the positive response of the community.
The perpetrators of the disorder are being identified and legal action is being taken. The police presence in the city remains strong to enforce the law. Unfortunately, the Spellow Library and Community Hub, which had recently undergone significant investment, were severely damaged in the unrest. Robinson described the damage as heartbreaking for the staff and residents who had worked hard to make it an important community asset. Urgent assessments of the damage are being conducted, and arrangements are being made to temporarily deliver services from nearby locations.
Robinson also thanked residents who expressed their support in response to the disorder. He stated that many residents have reached out to express their disgust at the situation and offer assistance however they can. Robinson’s statement closes by reaffirming the city’s commitment to rebuilding and recovering from the damage caused by the unrest
