After five years with CIX, South Korean singer Bae Jin-young has officially left the K-pop boyband. However, the trio is set to continue without him as a quartet. C9 Entertainment, the group’s label, revealed that it has “decided to terminate the exclusive contract” it has with Bae Jin-young as it enters a “new chapter”.
The K-pop agency continued, “We express our gratitude to Bae Jin-young for his hard work as a member of CIX and ask for your continued support.” The remaining members BX, Seunghun, Yonghee, and Hyunsuk will continue as a quartet, with the group currently preparing for a new album to be released later in the year.
Bae Jin-young first became famous in 2017 as one of the winners of the second season of the reality TV competition Produce 101, through which he earned a spot in the temporary boyband Wanna One. Following the disbandment of Wanna One, the K-pop star made his debut as part of CIX in mid-2019. Since then, the group has released one studio album, six mini-albums, and one single album. Their latest single album, ‘0 or 1’, was released in January 2024.
In other K-pop news, G-Dragon recently acquired the trademark rights to his stage name from former agency YG Entertainment. This acquisition comes shortly after his new company, GALADY Corporation, announced that the K-pop star would be releasing new music later this year
