Adele began her Munich residency at the city’s Messe arena on August 2, performing in front of 80,000 fans. The singer’s shows mark her first appearance in mainland Europe since 2016 and she will play a total of ten nights at the purpose-built venue. Pop-up designed by America’s Got Talent and Eurovision Song Contest set designer Florian Wieder, the “open air” space spans 400,000 square metres of Munich’s fairgrounds and features a 93-metre catwalk and 200-metre semi-circle stage.
Adele’s setlist consisted of 20 songs including ‘Hometown Glory’ and ‘Chasing Pavements’. The latter song was performed live for the first time since 2017. The singer also performed tracks from her latest album, ’30’, such as ‘Easy On Me’ and ‘Hold On’. However, any new material was missing from the setlist, and Adele recently revealed that she has no plans to record another album anytime soon.
The Munich Messe arena boasts of a massive 220 x 30 metre screen, which cost £34m, behind the stage. Besides, Adele World, a festival site area, is also part of the pop-up installation where fans can grab a drink while at a pub modeled after the Good Ship in Kilburn, London, which featured some of Adele’s earliest performances.
Adele’s Munich residency is the final leg of her tour, following her ‘Weekends With Adele’ Las Vegas residency earlier this year. Tickets for her Munich residency are still available for her remaining shows until August 31
