After almost five years, Marilyn Manson took the stage for his first full show at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The performance, on August 2nd, came after a series of sexual abuse allegations made against him in February 2021 – including by his ex-fiancée Evan Rachel Wood, who accused him of rape, torture and threats. More than 12 women have come forward with separate claims of abuse against him. Manson has denied all allegations, however numerous lawsuits continue to be filed against him.
Though this performance is Manson’s first since 2019, he has already embarked on a series of North American shows. These events come on the heels of his defamation case against Wood, which, while partially dismissed last May, still has some unresolved claims. It is expected to proceed to trial soon.
The Hershey, Pennsylvania show saw Manson backed by several musicians, including Reba Meyers of Code Orange on guitar and Piggy D, formerly of Rob Zombie’s band, on bass. It was captured on video by attendees, and several clips were shared online. Manson’s many accusations of abuse were not discussed at the event, nor did he mention them in interviews leading up to the show.
Manson’s alleged abuse has been investigated and written about extensively in the press, with many of his accusers appearing on camera or taking legal action. However, despite the media attention and uproar, he appears to be turning a corner professionally, having signed a new record deal with independent label Nuclear Blast, and releasing a new single in the form of ‘As Sick As The Secrets Within’ in recent weeks.
