The owner of Britain’s “ugliest” dog has spoken out about the unexpected and “surreal” transformation of her pet into a Hollywood star. Peggy, a pugese crossbreed, has been cast as “Dogpool” in the latest Marvel superhero film, Deadpool & Wolverine, appearing alongside well known actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

Peggy shot to fame last year when she was crowned the ugliest dog in a national contest. Her owner, Holly Middleton, from East Yorkshire, said that she never expected anything like this to happen, even after submitting Peggy’s picture to the competition. However, she now has a “massive fan base” and is due to make a homecoming appearance at a cinema in Hull.

Despite her newfound celebrity status, Peggy has not displayed any diva-like behaviour at home, gaining instead a little more confidence from the trainer who looked after her during filmmaking. Her usual reserved and lazy personality remains unchanged and she is simply enjoying life as a family pet.

Mrs Middleton said that it was strange not to have Peggy at home during her film debut at a premiere in New York, where she was held by Hollywood A-listers. However, she found the experience to be surreal and loved seeing her pet on the red carpet.

No plans are currently in place for further film roles and Peggy is content with snuggling on the couch or in her bed with her loving owners. Despite Peggy’s unusual looks, her global recognition has changed the public’s perception of her for the better, according to Mrs Middleton
