BBC has removed a Children in Need campaign video from its websites as it featured Axel Rudakubana. The teenager is accused of murdering three girls at a dance class and had appeared in the advert 7 years ago, dressed as Doctor Who. It has been revealed that he was contracted through a casting agency. The collar has now been removed out of respect for the victims of the stabbing incident.
Rudakubana is understood to have been represented by the Ology child talent agency that has declined any comments on the issue. BBC Children in Need has no relationship with him, and he has never had any former affiliation with any of the funded projects. The video was aimed to encourage audiences to “do your thing” for Children in Need.
Six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar lost their lives in the stabbing on Hart Street in Southport. They were attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance class at the time. Rudakubana, who was born in Cardiff, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court and faced charges of murdering the three girls, as well as 10 counts of attempted murder of eight other children and two adults, who were severely injured in the attack.
The defendant was subsequently remanded into youth detention accommodation, and he would turn 18 next week. In other developments, episodes of unrest have broken out in towns and cities across England with many police buildings and cars set alight. The home secretary has declared that the “criminals attacking the police and stoking disorder” would pay the price for their violence and thuggery
