Canadian singer Shawn Mendes has announced a series of “special” intimate theatre shows in support of his upcoming self-titled album. Following the release of his single “Isn’t That Enough”, Mendes revealed on Instagram that he would like the first shows back to be special and a chance to play the album live. The Canadian singer and songwriter has never played an album top to bottom. This announcement effectively means near enough a year after the release of “Wonder”, Mendes is now all set for a rare live experience.
“I’ve never played an album top to bottom before but it’s already one of my favourite shows I’ve ever rehearsed. I love you guys, the band and I can’t wait to see you!”
The “For My Friends And Family Only” tour dates start at Woodstock, NY – Bearsville Theater on August 8th, 2022, before heading to London for an 11,000 capacity show at Theatre Royal Drury Lane on August 13th. The US leg of the tour then kicks off in October at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, with the run ending a couple of weeks later at Paramount Theatre in Seattle. Mendes has written and co-produced the upcoming album alongside Scott Harris, Nate Mercereau, Mike Sabath, and Eddie Benjamin, with songwriting credits from Ethan Gruska and Amy Allen.
Mendes has previously spoken out about how making an album helped with his own mental health issues. “Music really can be medicine. Two years ago, I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago, I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.”
On that note, and speaking about his album, Shawn Mendes expressed gratitude to his family and friends for their support.
“Honestly thank god for my friends and family. Life can be brutal but having a small group of people you deeply trust to walk you through makes it so much better. I have no idea how I would have made it through the last couple of years, let alone make an album without you.”
This tour is a welcome addition for friends and family as well as fans, who will welcome the chance to hear the new songs from Shawn Mendes’ latest project live from August
