Aldershot unrest: Eight protesters sought by police

Police in Hampshire are searching for seven individuals following a protest that took place outside a hotel accommodating migrants in Aldershot. According to reports, a minority of the 200 demonstrators that had gathered outside the Potters International Hotel on Wednesday evening became involved in the disturbances. An image containing eight individuals that the police would like to identify in relation to the incident has been released. The protest occurred following a series of violent occurrences across the country after three girls were murdered in Southport on Monday.

Hampshire Police stated that apart from the minority that partook in the disruption, the majority of the attendees had protested peacefully. The police noted that the participants involved in the criminal activity, threw items, and subjected others to racial abuse. An officer suffered minor injuries. The demonstration has been linked to the Southport attack since the police have said that an investigation has been launched to act against those that sparked the unrest.

Labour MP for Aldershot, Alex Baker, stated that outsiders were at the root of the problem, exacerbating the situation. She later posted on X that there is no justification for disorderly conduct, and while peaceful protests are welcome, individuals who come to the towns to create trouble and divide communities will not be tolerated. Anyone with information regarding the photo released by the Hampshire Police has been urged to report to the police online or call 101, and reference the number 44240326041.

In a separate incident, seven men have been charged after police officers were pelted with missiles, eggs, and glass bottles in Hartlepool’s Murray Street area. An 11-year-old boy was also arrested after a police car was set alight in Hartlepool. Over 100 people were arrested in central London on Wednesday during a demonstration, where protesters clashed with the police on Whitehall. Sir Keir Starmer, the UK’s Prime Minister, has since condemned the violence that occurred in the meeting held with the police chiefs and has announced plans for forces across the country to cooperate better to tackle such incidents
