UK-based musician Jamie xx has joined forces with Australian music group The Avalanches to create a new single called “All You Children” for his upcoming second studio album, In Waves. The record is set for release via Young on September 20 and features collaborations with several artists including John Glacier, Panda Bear, and Kelsey Lu. “All You Children” is a club track featuring vocal chants and a driving bassline, and marks the third release from In Waves after “Baddy On The Floor” with Honey Dijon, and “Life” with Robyn, which marked Robyn’s “first major release” since 2018’s Honey.
Jamie xx spoke about his collaboration with The Avalanches, saying, “Their sample technique and how they piece together different sounds is incredible and collaborating on a track with them has showed me new ways of making music.” The two groups previously worked together on The Avalanches’ 2020 track, “Wherever You Go,” which featured both Jamie xx and Neneh Cherry.
The Avalanches also spoke about the new single, saying, “We’re so excited about the release of this track with Jamie, ‘All You Children.’ We hope you love it as much as we do.” In Waves marks Jamie xx’s first new record in more than nine years and follows his 2015-released debut album, In Colour.
In addition to the collaborations mentioned above, the 12-track album also includes tracks with The xx bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim, as well as Oona Doherty. The pre-order for In Waves is available on Jamie xx’s Bandcamp page, and the artwork and tracklist have been released as well
