Brwa Shorsh, a homeless man, has been found guilty of attempted murder for pushing a postman in front of an oncoming Tube train at Oxford Circus station on February 3rd. Tadeusz Potoczek, the postman, narrowly missed touching the live rail and was helped back up to the platform by another passenger. The driver of an oncoming train said that had he been on the track a few seconds later, he would have been killed.
Inner London Crown Court found Shorsh, 24, guilty of attempting to murder Potoczek, 61, who was on his way home from work. Shorsh had claimed he was “angry” at Potoczek as he felt as though the postman had given him a dirty look, but he had not intended to try to kill him. Shorsh is due to be sentenced on September 26th.
The CCTV footage of the incident shows the moment Shorsh pushed Potoczek off the southbound Victoria line platform, which proved vital evidence during the trial. Fortunately, Potoczek survived the attack with the help of a fellow passenger.
This case highlights the importance of being aware of the people around us, their struggles, and how those struggles can lead them to behave irrationally. The ongoing issue of homelessness needs attention and appropriate solutions to avoid such incidents from happening in the future
