Taylor Swift in 'complete shock' over Southport knife attack

Taylor Swift expressed her dismay at the stabbing attacks that took place at a dance workshop inspired by her music in Southport, which left three children dead and nine more wounded. The pop sensation took to Instagram to write that she was in a state of shock about the “horrendous trauma”, which has left her with no words to convey her condolences. The attack occurred on Monday, where attendees, both children and adults, were knifed at Hart Street, Southport.

Swift visited Liverpool as part of her European tour in June, and sympathised with the victims and their families stating that the ‘loss of life and innocence’ is too much for her to process. Her fans subsequently initiated a fund called ‘Swifties for Southport’, which has generated over £90,000 to support the victims and their families. Donations will go towards the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where many of the injured are undergoing treatment.

The Taylor Swift UK & EU Facebook group added that they are partnering with the hospital to “help raise money for the families affected by the tragedy in Southport” in a statement. The group also expressed its commitment towards raising funds for the funeral expenses of the two young Swifties who lost their lives at the attack. All contributions will be directed towards the hospital’s charity work, as per the statement.

Two adults were also injured in the attack, however, they remain in a stable condition. Police have arrested a 17-year-old teenager in connection with the attack, but the motive remains unclear, and the police are not treating this as a terror-related event. The investigation is still ongoing.

This is another devastating stabbing in the UK, with the private lives of many changed forever and most especially the families of the deceased and those seriously injured
