Pioneer DJ launches zine to mark 30 years of the CDJ

To commemorate the 30th anniversary since the launch of the first-ever CDJ, Pioneer DJ has unveiled its new fan-zine, which is titled Deckades. The zine aims to document the impact of the CDJ on DJ culture. Deckades features exclusive interviews with several DJs including Kikelomo, TSHA, Fatboy Slim, Fabio, Anna Tur, and plenty of nostalgic imagery.

The zine is divided by decade, spanning across 1994-2004, 2004-2014, and 2014-2024. The publication devotes 42 exclusive pages of photos, interviews, and commentary. It also provides an overview of 23 models of the CDJ, which showcases how the CDJ has evolved over the years.

The CDJ was a significant factor in the evolution of DJing. It enabled DJs to perform, collect, store, and travel with their collection. Furthermore, it allowed for new features like sync, loops, and cue points. While somewhat controversial in the DJ world, these developments made DJing more accessible and intuitive for broader audiences.

Deckades is available as a limited run of 1000 hard copies, which will be distributed on a first-come first-serve basis. Moreover, a digital copy is downloadable from the Pioneer DJ’s blog. In other news, Pioneer DJ’s parent company AlphaTheta failed in its attempt to acquire DJ software Serato due to legal compliance challenges from the commerce commission in New Zealand.

Deckades is an important publication for music enthusiasts as it documents a transformative period in modern music technology. Pioneer DJ’s contribution to the history of DJing is extensive, and the zine serves as a befitting tribute to their remarkable achievement
