Grub Records is a new record shop and wine bar that recently opened in Queens Road, Sheffield. The venue has officially opened its doors to the public every Wednesday to Sunday, and it aims to fill the gap in Sheffield’s dance music scene. Several soft launch events have been held in recent weeks, with the most notable being a takeover from Mondo Radio.
The shop has been created to become a worthy addition to the city’s thriving hub of DIY music and culture. Grub Records has launched a Crowdfunder to raise £2,500 to help the shop become a success. The plan is to use the fund to make the shop beautiful and jump-start plans for interior decoration. It will also help in stocking the shelves with as many killer records as possible.
The launch team of the venue includes Apricot Ballroom, Control, Groundwork, Footprints Jazz Club, Mondo Radio, and the DJ duo, Wow & Flutter. Overall, the team has donated approximately £10k worth of equipment, records, and cash to make the shop a reality. With the help of the public’s donation, the team will be able to have a wider range of genres on the shelves from day one, allowing them to diversify the selection of styles available and create a space with something for everyone.
The opening of the Grub Records shop and venue is a refreshing development, considering the trend of venue closures seen in the UK last year. The loss of five independent music venues per week has been noted, making the opening of a new venue a welcome change. For more information about Grub Records, visit their Instagram account
