A teenage boy has been arrested after a serious knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event for children in Southport, England on Monday. The incident left two children dead, with nine more seriously injured, six of whom are reportedly in a critical condition, along with two adults. The Merseyside Police department has apprehended the suspect and is treating this as an isolated incident that is unrelated to terrorism. The teenager is being investigated, and the motivation for the attack remains unclear.
According to Chief Constable Serena Kennedy:
“It is understood that the children were attending a Taylor Swift event at a dance school when the offender armed with a knife walked into the premises and started to attack the children. We believe that the adults who were injured were bravely trying to protect the children who were being attacked.”
The attack took place around 11:45 am BST on Monday, with police and 13 ambulances arriving on the scene shortly after. Eyewitnesses described the scene as being like something “from a horror movie,” and a nearby vehicle repair shop owner, Colin Parry, reported that a builder had helped around ten girls to safety. The Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, the Royal Family, and the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer all expressed their condolences and thoughts to those affected by the attack.
This is a developing story, and the police are continuing their investigations. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, and we hope for the speedy and full recovery of the injured
