Weezer cancel ‘SZNZ’ box set due to low sales

Weezer has cancelled their planned ‘SZNZ’ box set, citing a lack of expected sales to make it a viable project. The box set was planned to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their series of four seasonal EPs, SZNZ: ‘Spring’, ‘Summer’, ‘Autumn’, and ‘Winter’. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the release, which was first announced by the band on Twitter last year. However, Karl Kooch, Weezer’s assistant, webmaster, archivist and unofficial fifth member, revealed that the plans have been scrapped as a direct result of the high cost and lack of expected sales to justify the expense of the project.

It is worth noting that the cancellation of the box set is not the first time this year that Weezer has been forced to cancel a project. In June, the band cancelled their five-date series of back-to-back shows at the Broadway Theatre in New York due to low ticket sales and high expenses. Cuomo took to Weezer’s official Discord page to apologise to fans who had made travel plans for the shows and to express his disappointment that the Broadway shows would not be going ahead as planned.

Despite these difficulties, Weezer fans can still look forward to the upcoming ‘Voyage To The Blue Planet’ North American tour later this autumn. The tour comes as a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the band’s debut album, ‘The Blue Album’ and will see Weezer playing the LP in full at each show, along with rarities and special guests. The band will be supported by The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr, and any remaining tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster.

In other news, Rivers Cuomo, Weezer’s frontman, recently responded to Liam Gallagher’s claims that he is his favourite rock star. Cuomo responded positively and suggested that they should collaborate on a song. This statement has excited fans and has added to the anticipation for the upcoming Weezer projects
