Taylor Swift has expressed her joy after her song ‘…Ready for It?’ was used in an advert for the 2024 Paris Olympics by NBC. The ad showcased Olympic stars from Team USA and used a live tour recording of the song, with gymnast Simone Biles closing the ad by quoting the song lyric “Are you guys ready for it?” Swift re-posted the ad on her Instagram story and wrote, “So ready to scream at my TV cheering for these athletes,” complete with a medal emoji.
Swift is currently touring Europe as part of her Eras tour, and the NBC ad was shared on her Instagram story on Saturday night after her shows at Olympiastadion in Munich. Reports suggest that around 45,000 fans who couldn’t get tickets for the Munich show congregated on the hills outside to listen to Swift.
The Paris Olympics opening ceremony also took place on 26 July, with performers including Lady Gaga, Céline Dion and Gojira. Heavy metal band Gojira performed a cover of ‘Ah, Ça Ira!’ during a section titled ‘Liberté’, while Gaga sang ‘Mon truc en plumes’ on some steps by the river Seine.
Dion performed Edith Piaf’s ‘L’Hymne A L’Amour’, her first live performance since revealing that she suffers from stiff person syndrome (SPS). It was speculated that Dion and Gaga would perform together, but they ended up performing separately. Gaga posted on Instagram, “I feel so completely grateful to have been asked to open the Paris @Olympics 2024 this year.” The Eras tour will move to Warsaw, Poland, before heading to Vienna and London
