Love Island: Winners of ITV show announced

The finale of Love Island has ended and it’s hearts-afire amidst the contestants. This year’s gripping season will be ruminated for a long time, as the islanders were stuck inside the villa for eight weeks, while outside the world suffers from missed events like the Euro tournament, the Olympics opening ceremony, and a general election. The villa wasn’t short of exciting moments – with shock dumpings, dramatic recouplings and sneaky kisses on the famous terrace. Nevertheless, there could only be one couple to clinch the £50,000 prize.

The winners of Love Island 2024 are Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan, followed by Nicole Samuel and Ciaran Davies in second place, Matilda Draper and Sean Stone in third place, while Jessica Spencer and Ayo Odukoya bagged the fourth position. The contenders shared emotional declarations of love with each other, as Mimii praised Josh for being “attentive, kind, gentle and loving” as she gave her declaration. Josh himself promised to deliver a poem, “You mentioned to me that no one has ever written you a poem before and I promised you I will so I hope you like it.”

Joey Essex gained the most number of headlines as he entered the villa and quickly became the bookies’ favorite to win the series. However, his antics kicked him out right before the finals. Dumped contestants returned to vote for “the least compatible couple,” and after a heated exchange with Samantha Kenny – who Joey ditched earlier in the series – the Essex boy and his partner Jessy Potts were shown the door. The casting of a celebrity in the 11th season of the show received a mixed response, with some fans upset about it.

After the show’s 2019 final, which drew six million viewers, the ratings started dropping, with just 1 million viewers for the All Stars edition aired earlier this year. But, the opening episode of the current run has been the show’s highest-rated one for the past two years. It is worth mentioning that the show now places greater importance on the contestants’ wellbeing than ever before, as it interfaces with their relationship after they leave the villa. A social media ban forbids friends and family from posting on the loved ones’ behalf while they are in the villa. The ban, first introduced in 2023, was lifted during All Stars but was restored for the latest series, as part of the show’s “continued commitment to duty of care,” according to an ITV spokesperson
