Beck surprised fans at Newport Folk Festival by performing a set of covers and originals. The show included a cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Maggie’s Farm’. In a nod to the event’s roots, which began as a celebration of folk music, Beck performed classic songs from the genre, such as Fred Neil’s ‘The Other Side of This Life’, Jimmy Rodgers’ ‘Waiting for a Train’, and Blind Willie Johnson’s ‘God Moves on the Water’.
Alongside the covers, the artist played several of his own tracks, including ‘John Hardy’, ‘Stagger Lee’, and ‘Loser’. Footage of the performance is available online, allowing fans who missed the show to catch up on the action.
Beck is currently on an orchestral tour and recently collaborated with Orville Peck on the newly released track ‘Death Valley High’. The song is part of Peck’s upcoming album, ‘Stampede’, set for release on August 2. Beck’s orchestral tour is set to continue with upcoming shows in New York, Louisville, St. Louis, and Huntsville.
Beck’s last album, ‘Hyperspace’, was released in 2019 as a collaborative project with Pharrell Williams. Elizabeth Audrey of NME praised the record and claimed it marked a new era for the artist.
