Police in Suffolk have reported the death of a woman who was seriously injured in an assault in Brantham while out walking her dog. Anita Rose, 59, was found unconscious by a member of the public on Wednesday morning and passed away on Sunday morning at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. A man from Ipswich who had been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of attempted murder was rearrested on suspicion of murder. A 37-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. Her phone has been found but her pink jacket is still missing.
Ms Rose had been walking her springer spaniel Bruce when the incident occurred. She was discovered on a track between a sewerage works and a railway line. Police were called by ambulance paramedics and Rectory Lane was cordoned off.
A statement issued by Ms Rose’s family called on anyone with information to come forward and urged people to cherish their time together. It said their mother was a grandmother to 13 children and a well-known figure in the local community.
Det Supt Mike Brown called for anyone with useful information about the incident or CCTV footage of the area to come forward. He said inquiries were continuing into the cause of Ms Rose’s death and that the scene had now been lifted on Rectory Lane.
