A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was found unconscious in Suffolk. A member of the public came across Anita Rose, aged 57, lying on a track in Brantham at around 06:25 BST on Wednesday. She was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with a head injury and is still in a critical condition. A 45-year-old man from the Ipswich area was arrested on Saturday in connection with the attempted murder.

The suspect was taken into custody at the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre in relation to the incident, which took place off Rectory Lane near the sewage works and railway line close to where trains cross the River Stour estuary. Ms Rose was believed to have left her house at about 05:00 the morning of the attack to walk her springer spaniel called Bruce. Police have confirmed that it is not believed that the suspect was known to the victim.

Officers are trying to locate the pink jacket that Ms Rose was wearing at the time of the attack, along with her mobile phone, which were both missing. Meanwhile, specially trained officers are providing support to Ms Rose’s family during this difficult period. Detective Inspector Mike Brown has asked the local community to come forward with any information that could help the investigation and avoid speculation, requesting that no comments be made through social media.

Police have stated that inquiries are still taking place to clarify the circumstances which led to the incident, and they state that they will continue throughout the weekend. It is still uncertain as to why the victim was targeted, and police will be exploring all possibilities and leads as part of their ongoing investigation
